Good day friends,
I’m very grateful to have you join us in this journey, and like on most journey’s we travel, we look for signposts. Signposts can tell us where we are, where we are going and then we can decide if that’s really where we want to go!
Prayer and fasting can be like a signpost as we can be reorientated to where we are currently at in our relationship with God, where we are headed and if that really is the place we want to be going in our relationship with Him. So thank you for taking time and energy to do it, alone together:)
You will find some specific prayer requests at the end of this blog. If you did not get to watch my 6 minute video message Monday to begin our time of prayer and fasting, you can still catch below
We are using an acrostic for P.R.A.Y. as some direction for these days.
P – Pause – purposefully planing and setting aside time from our routines to listen, talk and be with God. Invite Him to be with you and lead your time with Him.
R – Reflect – In reflection, the Holy Spirit can direct our thoughts to a more accurate picture of what is going on in our lives and a greater understanding of where God is moving.
A – Ask – We have been reminded that not only ok to ask, God asks us to ask… but he wants us to ask according to His heart and will, so that we do not ask out of selfish motivations or desires. He will teach us what that is if we ask.
Y – Yearn
Today we end our prayer session with Yearn.
Yearn is generally defined as have an intense desire or longing. We will be doing well if in times of prayer we come out having a greater longing to know and experience God more.
Here are a few signs of yearning….That we would have a hunger for His word and His ways. That we would desire to be more sensitive to His Spirit. That we would be long for more of Jesus every day.
David who wrote a number of the Psalms in the Bible gives a great picture of yearning for God.
“As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?” Psalm 42;1,2
“Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8
Hebrews 11:6 says, ” And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
What can we take from these Scriptures?
1) We are to yearn for God.
2) God is good and it is right to yearn for Him.
3) We are to actively seek Him.
I think that sometimes we are waiting to see how God is seeking us… and He is. But scripture says we are to yearn after and seek Him… we have an active role in our relationship.
Would you check your spiritual signposts today? Are you where you want to be in your relationship with Him? Are you headed in the right direction?
IF YES, Would you take time today to list out how you will continue to move in the right direction with God? Invite Him to show you what He has for you next.
IF NO, Would you take time today to list out the things that may be slowing you down or putting you in the wrong direction? Then confess that and receive His forgiveness, grace and healing.
Let us all ask God for a new and increased longing and yearning for HIM today and that He will meet with us!
God bless you,
Dallas and Leah
THURSDAY PRAYER THEMES:
*Yearning… ask God to increase our yearning for Him, both as individuals, families and as a church.
*Our World… for issues surrounding the pandemic such as people’s health, front line workers, leaders and decision makers, schools, and the economy etc. Also for social unrest and injustice and that we as Christians can be ministers of hope, healing and reconciliation.
*The Church around the World… there are many places around the world where it is not physically safe to be a Christian. Pray for those who are suffering persecution for the name of Jesus. Pray for wisdom for leaders. Pray for favor and success of ministries and missions in order to reach those who do not yet know Jesus.
*Ask God to give you 3 people/families in particular to pray for today, that you don’t often do and pray for health, blessing and God to be present with them today.
*And whatever else God puts on your heart..
