When the COVID-19 situation emerged The Rock Church suspended all onsite group ministry activities at our building, but we continued to operate as community, working to use more technology to facilitate worship, small group ministries, personal fellowship and outreach to children, youth and adults. For more than a year prior to COVID-19 we had been recording and posting video of our services on this website and on our YouTube channel. We added “virtual live” services, which include live chat, via Church Online Platform. We ramped up sharing and personal contact via email, texting and telephone. Zoom web conferencing provided opportunities to continue (and grow) our Life Groups, facilitate meetings, and offer group activities to all ages.
With Saskatchewan’s success at “flattening the curve” the provincial government has introduced a staged approach to re-opening. Phases Three and Four allowed for limited re-opening of ministries activities pertinent to The Rock Church.
Effective June 8, 2020, Phase Three of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan allowed limited re-opening of places of worship. Key requirements of the guidelines include: “the total number of people participating in services cannot exceed 30 per cent of seating capacity or 150 people, whichever is less” and “where seating area allows adequate physical distancing – multiple groups of 30 are permitted”. Other important requirements are accessible at Places of Worship Guidelines.
Phase Four of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan also affects TRC ministry activities, especially related to child and youth ministries. Part I (June 22, 2020) allows child and youth day camps to be held, and outdoor pools and spray parks to re-open. Part II (July 6, 2020) allowed the re-opening of indoor sports and activities and indoor pools.
Within these rules and guidelines the leadership of The Rock Church has developed a plan to begin re-opening with “watch parties”. Beginning Sunday, July 12, 2020 families and individuals will be able to attend watch parties at The Rock Church. Services will be pre-recorded and shown on our big screen at the church. People who wish to attend can call or email the church to reserve their seats. We will reserve a maximum number of seats for each service based on physical distancing requirements. As needed, we will arrange multiple watch parties each Sunday, to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend.
We encourage anyone experiencing any symptoms (see Saskatchewan COVID-19 Self-assessment Tool), and anyone in a high risk category or compromised health position, to continue to enjoy the service from the comfort of your home.
We also understand that many of us continue to limit the amount of contacts and activity and want to assure you that for all who continue to watch from home… we bless you and support you in that. There is no guilt or shame!
